Dr. Campos is a non-practicing physician and researcher originally from Costa Rica and her native language is Spanish. She received her medical degree at Universidad de Iberoamerica in Costa Rica and completed an internship in medicine and general surgery at Hospital Mexico and Hospital Nacional De Ninos in San Jose, Costa Rica. She worked at the National Children’s Hospital in Costa Rica in the pediatric surgery field she was dedicated to treating pediatric burn victims in Costa Rica and other Central American countries. While providing critical care education to burn victims and their families transported to the Texas Medical Center in Houston, she realized the importance of education to improvement in care. Through her work with Shriners Burns Hospital, she was exposed to exceptional research and treatment programs that included longitudinal outcome assessments, outreach clinics to rural areas and investigations into techniques to improve functional outcomes. She is a research associate THI and active in multiple research projects including echocardiography, valvular heart disease, relationship between depression and cardiovascular disease and the development of the digital educational materials in Spanish. Most recently her research has been focused on the Center for Women’s Heart & Vascular Health Houston HeartReach Registry (HHR) program that is now in its sixth year. Her research interests over the past 3 years have been largely influenced by the interactions with the underserved and underinsured Spanish-speaking community. Through the HHR project, she enjoys working with established and reputable community organizations such as nationally recognized Neighborhood Center’s Inc and LHI, which are dedicated to eliminating barriers to healthcare and promoting health and wellness. Since the launch of the Houston HeartReach study and registry, Dr. Campos has enrolled and performed study procedures with over 1300 women enrolled in the registry.
